What is your AC doing?
Choose the symptom that sounds familiar. Learn what may be behind it, what you can check safely, and when the problem needs professional attention.
The AC Runs, but the Air Isn't Cold
What may be happening: A thermostat setting, restricted airflow, dirty filter, frozen coil, outdoor-unit problem, or refrigerant issue can leave an AC running without producing adequate cooling.
Try this first: Confirm the thermostat is on Cool and set below the room temperature. Check the filter and make sure supply registers are open and unobstructed.
Get help if: The air remains warm after these checks, the indoor coil has ice on it, or the outdoor equipment isn’t operating. Refrigerant and electrical work should be handled by a qualified technician.
Nothing Happens When You Call for Cooling
What may be happening: The thermostat may not be sending a cooling signal, or the system could have a power, control, or component fault. A tripped breaker is another possibility.
Try this first: Check the thermostat display and settings. If the AC breaker has tripped, you can reset it once. Don’t repeatedly reset a breaker that trips again.
Get help if: The system stays off, the breaker trips again, or you notice smoke, burning odors, or unusual electrical sounds. Those are signs to stop using the equipment and have it inspected.
Water Is Appearing Around Your Indoor AC
What may be happening: The condensate drain may be blocked, the drain pan may not be draining correctly, or a frozen coil may be producing excess water as it thaws. A clogged drain can also contribute to indoor moisture problems.
Try this first: Turn the AC off if water is actively accumulating. Check whether the filter is heavily dirty. Keep water away from electrical components and don’t open panels to reach the drain system.
Get help if: The leak continues, returns after the system runs, or water is reaching walls, ceilings, flooring, or electrical equipment. The source needs to be identified rather than simply cleaning up the water.
Frost or Ice Is Forming on Your AC
What may be happening: Insufficient airflow is a common reason for an evaporator coil to freeze. A dirty filter, blocked airflow, coil problem, or refrigerant-related issue can contribute.
Try this first: Switch the AC off and allow the ice to melt. Check the filter and replace it if it’s dirty. Make sure return and supply grilles aren’t blocked.
Get help if: Ice comes back after thawing, airflow is unusually weak, or the AC still cannot cool the house. Continuing to operate a frozen system can make the underlying problem worse.
Your AC Has Started Making an Unusual Sound
What may be happening: The type of noise can provide a clue. Rattling may involve a loose component, while grinding or squealing can point toward a problem with a moving part. Buzzing can have several possible causes, including electrical components.
Try this first: Turn the system off and note when the noise occurs—during startup, while running, or when shutting down. Look around the outdoor unit for obvious leaves or debris, but don’t put your hands inside the equipment.
Get help if: The noise is new, loud, persistent, or accompanied by vibration, poor cooling, or a burning smell. A technician can locate the source before a small mechanical problem develops into a larger repair.
The AC Keeps Starting and Stopping
What may be happening: Short cycling can have several causes, including restricted airflow, thermostat problems, an improperly sized system, or another equipment fault. An oversized AC can also run for shorter periods and remove less moisture from the air.
Try this first: Check the filter and make sure return and supply vents are clear. Look at the thermostat to make sure it isn’t being affected by direct sunlight or another heat source.
Get help if: The system repeatedly shuts down after only a few minutes or cannot maintain the temperature you set. Frequent cycling deserves a proper diagnosis rather than simply lowering the thermostat.
The House Feels Damp Even Though the AC Is Running
What may be happening: An AC normally removes some moisture while cooling. Persistent indoor humidity can be related to system sizing, airflow, coil condition, duct issues, or insufficient dehumidification. EPA guidance recommends keeping indoor humidity around 30–50%, while consistently exceeding 60% can increase moisture-related concerns.
Try this first: Check your thermostat’s fan setting and use Auto if appropriate for your system. Keep exterior doors and windows closed while cooling and check that the filter is clean.
Get help if: The home continues to feel damp, condensation appears on surfaces, or you notice musty odors or moisture around vents. A technician can evaluate the equipment and airflow to determine why the space isn’t drying properly.
Our AC Repair Services in Pompano Beach

Emergency AC Repair
AC stopped working when you need it most? We handle urgent problems such as no cooling, electrical failures, frozen systems, and water leaks. Our technician checks the equipment, finds the fault, and works to get your cooling back safely.
Home AC Repair
Your home’s AC can develop problems that aren’t always obvious at first. We diagnose issues such as weak airflow, warm air, frequent cycling, unusual sounds, thermostat problems, and poor cooling, then recommend the repair your system actually needs.
Air Handler & Condenser Repair
The indoor air handler and outdoor condenser work together to cool your home. Problems with a blower motor, capacitor, fan, coil, electrical component, or other parts can affect the entire system. We inspect both sides of the equipment to locate the source.
Ductless Mini-Split Repair
Mini-splits need a different approach from traditional central AC systems. We service ductless equipment experiencing weak airflow, uneven cooling, drainage problems, unusual noises, or communication and control issues.
Commercial AC Repair
A cooling problem can affect employees, customers, equipment, and day-to-day operations. We provide AC service for commercial properties, addressing problems with rooftop units, packaged systems, air handlers, controls, and other cooling equipment.
AC replacement and ductwork
Sometimes repairing an older system isn’t the only option. If an AC is repeatedly failing or no longer meets the home’s cooling needs, we can assess its condition and discuss replacement options. We also address ductwork problems that can contribute to uneven airflow and energy loss.
Need help deciding which service you need? Tell us what your AC is doing, and we’ll help determine the appropriate next step. We work with residential and commercial cooling systems and service multiple AC types and brands.

Repair or Replace? Look at These Factors
A newer system with one isolated problem may only need a repair. For an older unit, repeated breakdowns, rising operating costs, or a major component failure can make replacement worth considering.
Repair Makes Sense When
- The system is still relatively young
- One part has failed and can be replaced
- Cooling performance remains consistent
- The repair cost is reasonable for the unit's condition
Replacement May Be Worth Considering When
- The system is older and needs frequent repairs
- A major component has failed
- Energy costs keep increasing
- The home stays uncomfortable despite ongoing service
Refrigerant Can Affect the Decision
The refrigerant your system uses is another factor to consider. Older equipment may use R-22, which is no longer produced or imported as new refrigerant in the U.S. Existing R-22 systems can still be serviced using available reclaimed or previously produced supplies. Newer systems may use different refrigerants, so the equipment’s age, condition, repair history, and future service costs should all be considered.
Why Your AC Works Harder in Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach’s coastal weather can put extra demand on an air conditioner. Heat, humidity, salty air, and frequent storms can all affect how the system runs and how quickly outdoor parts wear.
Heavy Rain and Storms
Pompano Beach can see strong rain and wind during stormy weather. Debris can collect around the outdoor unit, while standing water or damaged electrical parts can affect operation. After a major storm, it's smart to check the equipment before running it again.
High Humidity
Your AC has two jobs in summer: cool the home and remove moisture from the air. When humidity stays high, the system may run longer, and problems with airflow, drainage, or sizing can make the home feel damp.
Hurricane season surges
From June 1 to November 30, storms and outages can damage capacitors, contactors and control boards. If the AC won't start after power returns, turn it off and call.
Condos and Smaller Living Spaces
Many Pompano Beach homes are condos, apartments, or compact properties where HVAC equipment has limited space. Tight closets, restricted airflow, and difficult access can make routine maintenance and repairs more involved.

We've been a customer of Prime Air Conditioner LLC since 2020. We're very pleased with their company including both installations and service. We have 2 commercial A/C units in our offices that they put in and maintained and we have 3 residential units in three separate condos that we own where they've installed and maintained the units and we're planning to have them replace the last one soon. We've recommended them to other people (including my next door neighbor who had 2 units installed). Gerald and his technicians including Wilson, George and most recently Kensley and Trent are all polite capable young men. When we need something and call, Day usually answers and coordinates the service in a super friendly way.Posted on Google![]()

Called at 5:30pm, fixed by 6:30pm. Honestly they impressed my husband more than me since he was urging me to make a review. That alone is enough for 5 stars lol. Husband is very suspicious about any contractor really, expecting to get scammed or over charged yada yada. The issue was a broken capacitor. Charged us $250 total (was going to be $85 to come out regardless). Husband thinks that's pretty reasonable... Personally most places were closing and this place had decent reviews and was active on Google which is a plus in my book. I just wanted to not be sweating in an extreme heat wave. We're also first time home owners so this is a first and we'll be using them again if any other issues arise.Posted on Google![]()

What HVAC services does Prime Air Conditioning offer?
Prime Air Conditioning provides AC installation, repair, and maintenance for residential and commercial properties. We also offer ductwork services, duct cleaning, air purifiers, UV light solutions, and heating services.
How much does AC service cost in Pompano Beach?
The price depends on the type of service and the condition of the system. After checking the equipment, we can explain what is needed and provide a quote.
How long does a new AC installation take?
The time depends on the type of system, the property, existing ductwork, and the installation requirements. After looking at your property, the technician can give you a better idea of how long the installation should take.
Can damaged ductwork affect my AC?
Yes. Leaking or damaged ducts can reduce airflow and make it harder for your AC to cool the property evenly. If some rooms stay warmer than others, checking the ductwork may help find the problem.
How do I know what size AC unit I need?
The correct AC size depends on more than the square footage of your home. The property’s layout, insulation, windows, ductwork, and cooling needs should all be considered before selecting a system.
Do you offer free AC estimates?
Yes. Prime Air Conditioning offers free, no-obligation estimates for HVAC services.
How long does an AC system last in South Florida?
Most central air conditioners here last roughly 10 to 15 years. Near-constant use, high humidity and salt air near the coast can shorten that, while regular maintenance helps a system reach the longer end of the range.
Which areas near Deerfield Beach do you serve?
Besides Deerfield Beach, we serve Boca Raton, Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, Hillsboro Beach, Coconut Creek, Parkland, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale and many other cities across Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties.
