Is Your AC Acting Differently?

Sometimes the first sign of trouble is not a complete breakdown. You may notice warmer air, an unfamiliar sound, water around the indoor unit, or an AC that seems to run far more often than usual.

The AC Runs, But Cooling Is Weak

Common causes: Low refrigerant, restricted airflow, a dirty outdoor coil, thermostat problems, or an issue with the condenser can all reduce cooling.

Safe to check first: Put the thermostat on Cool, make sure the filter isn’t clogged, and confirm the outdoor breaker hasn’t been switched off.

Call for service when: The air remains warm, the outdoor unit isn’t operating correctly, or the system cannot bring the temperature down.

Nothing Happens When You Request Cooling

Common causes: The thermostat, breaker, wiring, capacitor, control board, or another electrical component may be preventing startup.

Safe to check first: Confirm the thermostat has power and is calling for cooling. If the HVAC breaker has tripped, you can reset it once.

Call for service when: The breaker trips again, or the equipment remains completely unresponsive. Repeated breaker resets should be avoided.

There's Water Around the Indoor Equipment

Common causes: Condensate drain restrictions, a backed-up pan, a frozen coil, or a float switch problem can all lead to unwanted water.

Safe to check first: Shut the cooling off if water is accumulating and look for an obvious blockage or heavily dirty filter.

Call for service when: The water returns, the drain backs up, or the system stops because of a safety switch.

Frost Is Covering the Coil or Refrigerant Line

Common causes: Insufficient airflow, low refrigerant, a dirty coil, blower trouble, or another condition can make the evaporator operate below its normal temperature.

Safe to check first: Switch off cooling and let the ice melt. Replace a dirty filter if necessary, but don’t scrape ice from the equipment.

Call for service when: The coil freezes again, or cooling remains weak after the system has thawed.

Your AC Has Developed a New Sound

Common causes: Buzzing may point to an electrical component, rattling can come from a loose panel or debris, while grinding may indicate motor or bearing wear.

Safe to check first: Listen for where the sound begins and whether it occurs during startup, operation, or shutdown.

Call for service when: The noise is persistent, becomes louder, or is accompanied by vibration or poor cooling.

The System Starts and Stops Too Often

Common causes: Dirty filters, airflow restrictions, thermostat problems, refrigerant issues, equipment sizing, or another operating fault can cause repeated cycling.
Safe to check first: Make sure the filter is clean, and that supply and return vents aren’t blocked by furniture or other objects.
Call for service when: The AC keeps restarting every few minutes even after basic airflow checks.

The Temperature Looks Fine, But the Rooms Feel Damp

Common causes: Short run times, poor airflow, drainage trouble, dirty coils, or equipment that isn’t removing enough moisture can affect indoor comfort.

Safe to check first: Check the filter and make sure the AC is completing normal cooling cycles rather than repeatedly starting and stopping.

Call for service when: Humidity remains high despite normal coolin,g or you notice condensation, musty smells, or uneven comfort.

AC Services for Homes and Businesses

Different properties require different types of cooling equipment and service. Prime Air Conditioning provides residential and commercial AC work, including installation, repair, and maintenance.

Emergency AC repair

A failed AC can become an immediate problem during hot weather. Emergency service is available for urgent cooling issues that can’t reasonably wait for a regular appointment.

Residential AC Repair

From a warm bedroom to an AC that won’t start, we troubleshoot cooling problems affecting houses, condos, and other residential spaces.

AC Installation

Replacing an old system or adding new cooling equipment requires more than choosing a unit. The property, existing setup, ductwork, and cooling requirements all matter when planning an installation.

Central AC Service

Central systems combine indoor and outdoor equipment, controls, electrical components, and airflow. We service these parts when cooling performance changes or the system stops operating properly.

Commercial AC Service

Rooftop package units and split systems for offices, retail spaces and commercial properties, with repairs focused on restoring cooling and keeping business downtime short.

AC Replacement & Ductwork

When continued repairs no longer make practical sense, we can assess replacement options. Ductwork can also be addressed when poor airflow, leaks, or uneven cooling are part of the problem.

Parts we repair and replace: capacitors, contactors, compressors, condenser fan motors, blower motors, evaporator and condenser coils, refrigerant leaks, thermostats, drain lines, float switches and control boards.

More from Prime: home AC maintenance, commercial AC maintenance, ductwork installation, ductwork repairs, duct cleaning, UV lights, air purifiers and heating.

Repair the Existing System or Install a New One?

There isn’t one rule that determines when an AC should be replaced. A system’s current condition and the type of problem it has are more useful than age alone.

Continuing With a Repair Can Be Reasonable When

A Replacement Conversation May Make Sense When

Refrigerant and Older Systems

The refrigerant in an older AC can be part of the repair decision. R-22 is no longer produced as newly manufactured refrigerant in the U.S., although existing R-22 systems can still be serviced with available refrigerant.

Older R-410A systems can also be repaired. If refrigerant loss or another major problem is found, we’ll explain the situation and the choices available for the existing equipment.

What Makes Fort Lauderdale AC Service Different?

Fort Lauderdale’s environment presents a few conditions that can matter when diagnosing air conditioning equipment. The city has seven miles of shoreline, more than 300 miles of waterway coastline, low elevation, and a subtropical climate. The city identifies sea-level rise, extreme rainfall, and elevated temperatures as important resilience concerns.

Coastal Exposure

Outdoor AC equipment located in a coastal environment is exposed to moisture and salt-containing air. The condition of coils, electrical connections, and other exterior components can therefore be relevant during service.

Heat and Moisture

Cooling a Fort Lauderdale property means dealing with both temperature and humidity. When an AC doesn't run correctly, the space may feel uncomfortable even if the thermostat reaches its selected temperature.

Rain, Flooding and Drainage

Fort Lauderdale has extensive waterways and low-lying areas where heavy rainfall, high tides, and storm conditions can contribute to flooding. That makes drainage and the condition of outdoor equipment important considerations after severe weather.

Homes, Condos and Commercial Buildings

The city includes many different property layouts. An AC serving a waterfront home may be configured very differently from equipment in a condo, office, retail space, or larger commercial property.

A Straightforward Way to Handle AC Problems

1

Tell Us What Changed

Let us know whether the system is warm, noisy, leaking, cycling, or refusing to start.

2

We Look at the Equipment

The indoor and outdoor components are checked along with the parts connected to the reported problem.

3

The Cause Becomes Clearer

Testing and observation help separate the actual fault from the symptom you noticed first.

4

You Get the Information

We’ll explain what needs attention and what choices are available for the equipment.

5

The Approved Work Is Completed

After you choose how to proceed, the repair or installation is carried out, and the system is checked afterwards.

We've been a customer of Prime Air Conditioner LLC since 2020. We're very pleased with their company including both installations and service. We have 2 commercial A/C units in our offices that they put in and maintained and we have 3 residential units in three separate condos that we own where they've installed and maintained the units and we're planning to have them replace the last one soon. We've recommended them to other people (including my next door neighbor who had 2 units installed). Gerald and his technicians including Wilson, George and most recently Kensley and Trent are all polite capable young men. When we need something and call, Day usually answers and coordinates the service in a super friendly way.

Called at 5:30pm, fixed by 6:30pm. Honestly they impressed my husband more than me since he was urging me to make a review. That alone is enough for 5 stars lol. Husband is very suspicious about any contractor really, expecting to get scammed or over charged yada yada. The issue was a broken capacitor. Charged us $250 total (was going to be $85 to come out regardless). Husband thinks that's pretty reasonable... Personally most places were closing and this place had decent reviews and was active on Google which is a plus in my book. I just wanted to not be sweating in an extreme heat wave. We're also first time home owners so this is a first and we'll be using them again if any other issues arise.

Fort Lauderdale AC Repair & Installation FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Don’t see yours? Call or text our team.

Can you repair an AC that is running but not cooling?

Yes. Poor cooling can come from several different issues, including airflow restrictions, refrigerant problems, electrical components, thermostat faults, or outdoor-unit problems. The cause needs to be identified before deciding on the repair.

Yes. Prime Air Conditioning lists both residential and commercial AC installation among its services.

Frequent breakdowns, major component failures, repeated repair costs, and continued poor cooling can all be reasons to discuss replacement. The overall condition of the equipment should also be considered.

Condensate drainage problems are a common reason for water around indoor AC equipment. A blocked drain, full pan, frozen coil, or float switch can be involved.

The system should remove moisture while cooling. Short cycling, poor airflow, drainage problems, or equipment issues can reduce that moisture removal.

Yes. The team provides HVAC service for residential properties, including condos, as well as commercial buildings.

Yes. Ductless mini-split systems are among the equipment types Prime Air Conditioning services.

Yes. Prime Air Conditioning lists commercial AC repair, installation, and maintenance among its services.

Yes. We repair ductless mini-split systems from brands such as Mitsubishi Electric, MRCOOL and Pioneer, as well as rooftop package units and split systems for offices, retail spaces and property managers.

Coastal air, humidity, rainfall, and flooding conditions can all be relevant when assessing outdoor equipment and drainage. Fort Lauderdale’s low elevation and extensive waterways make flooding a documented local concern.
